Claire Reid founded Reel Gardening, a patented biodegradable paper tape that encases organic fertilizer and seeds at the correct depth and distance apart, as a 16 year old to solve the problems she encountered when starting her own vegetable garden. As an inventor turned entrepreneur, Claire began research and development for her company in 2008 and opened Reel Gardening’s office in 2010 in Johannesburg. Claire and Reel Gardening have won several international awards recognizing their work and the support of many international programs. Claire is an Ambassador for the Richard Branson Centre for Entrepreneurship as well as a regular speaker on social entrepreneurship at universities in South Africa where she is based. Claire hold Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Pretoria.
